white blood cell count? Teak, anyone?

Good afternoon everyone,

yesterday I went to my general doctor because my throat was hurting and they drew blood to check for mono due to my symptoms.

I checked my online result and my white blood cell count was 5700 and it said a normal scale is 4000-10,000.

If my body was infected with HIV woudlnt my white blood cell count be much higher becaue it was trying to fight an infection?

Thank you!

Did you have any infections in your body? When I went to the hospital everything was normal but my white blood cells. They were high, 14. But I had an ear infection which I think is the cause. Does that sound about right?

Get an HIV antibody test if you've had an exposure. White blood count is not used to diagnose HIV.

Hu kumar thanks for your reply sure i know that. but pls im just soooo worried. can u help me clear teak's message above pls. my wbc is 14.9 where normal is 4-11. Everything is on normal range except for a high NEU that made my wbc to be up. Does hiv person has a low or high wbc? Your answer would be a great help. thanks soooo much

blood tests like wbc count wont tell if you are infected
the only way to know is to test specifically for hiv...a test at 3 months post exposure will be conclusive..

No people with HIV have normal to normal lower end values. You would have to know what your values are to begin with to know if one is not normal.
