window period

Hello, a week ago i was involved in a male to male sexual encounter, this encounter included brief oral, both giving and receiving as well as mutual masturbation, there was no penetration, however my partner did ejaculate on, and around my penis, and i then masturbated to climax, and obviously his semen was therefore exposed to my penis, probably even on and around the tip, i desperately need some advise on this matter as am now absolutely petrified, (to the extent that i can think of nothing else) that i may have contracted HIV.
thank you for your time, and i apologize if this may seem trivial, but i really don't know what to do.
obviously i will be getting tested, but i know that i have to wait a while before this can be done, in the mean time could you please advise me of the possible likelihood of contraction.
I recently performed a home HIV test at the 8 week period, this came back negative but i am still very worried, just for my own piece of mind do you think i am over reacting and what are the chances after 8 weeks that i still could be positive, but it did not show up on my test? once again thank you for your time.

This discussion is related to risk of contraction.

Hello,
Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum.
From the description of your sexual encounter I can conclude that there was no real risk for you of HIV infection.  The reason for this is that it is practically impossible for the virus to infect once outside of the body and it would not be enough to infect to simply come into contact with your urethra as it would require an access into the blood stream.  This would normally happen with penetration and when inside of the body, in the right medium and at the right temperature.  Therefore I do not believe that there was a HIV risk for you.  You can always have a test at the correct window period, for your peace of mind, but I am very confident that this will be negative.
Best wishes,
Dr José
