worried

Hi doctor,

I have been reading the forum for a while now so I know what you passe answers were but I still need to ask for my own peace of mine.

Ok so about 2 months ago I when to a asian massage parlor in montreal and I ended up having sex with the girl. we had protected vaginal sex for about 10-15 min. At the end she was on to of me and I came. I pulled out and the condom looked fine. The thing is that I decided to re enter this time me on top of her for like 20 second but because I came i started to loose my erection so it was to hard to move. When I pulled out, I noticed that the condom was kind of wrinkled like it moved or something. I checked quickly to see if it was broken but I didn't see anything (it was dark though).

My question are:

Am I at risk for HIV with this event.

I am in a monogamous relationship so I am not to experienced with condoms....did the condom look like that because it broke or was it because it was starting to slip due to reentering after ejaculation and being half hard.

thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for reading other discussions to see our advice in similar situations.  And congratulations for being responsible about safe sex, i.e. using a condom during your massage parlor adventure.

Condom protection against HIV is complete if the head of the penis remains covered; slippage of the penis inside the condom probably makes little or no difference.  A ruptured condom is pretty much impossible to miss; most breaks are wide open and very obvious.  Furhter, it is statistically unlikely yoru massage partner had HIV; the large majority of sex workers in the US (whether in an "Asian" establishment or otherewise) do not have it.

For those reasons, you are not at measurable risk of HIV or other STDs from this event.  No testing is necessary unless you need it for additional reassurance from the negative result, i.e. if this opinion doesn't settle your fears.  If I were in your situation, I would continue unprotected sex with my wife, with no fear of infecting her with anything.

I hope this has helped.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD

thank you doctor for your answer (you are very quick) I have been known to be an hypochondriac so I just wanted to make sure. I will go on with my life and play the odds. If I can't get over it I will go get tested in the future.

thank you again.

Hi doctor,

I ended up getting tested at a private clinic because I couldn't shack this off. I think the test was done after 8 -12 weeks or more. can't really remember when the experience was. Anyways I just want to know how reliable the test results are?

thank you again.

Official advice is usually that antibody testing is not 100% reliable until 3 months after the last possible exposure.  However, 6 weeks in fact is virtually 100% reliable.  And for the duo test (for both HIV antibody and p24 antigen), a negative result is 100% reliable any time after 4 weeks.  If you don't know what kind of test you had, phone the clinic and ask.

In other words, if your test was indeed done 8 weeks or more after the last exposure, you can rely on the result and do not need any further testing.

Yes, that's it.  You're done with testing for the exposure described.

And that winds up this thread.  Take care.
