Excessive Hair Loss

Hi
im a 17 year old man and ive been having severe hair loss for the last 6-8 months. I have lost nearly half of my hair thickness and now my hair is so thin that its barely covering my scalp. Ive got flaky dry scalp and ive used nearly all the home remedies, from oiling my hair to applying conditioner, using Nizoral AD. The itchyness has got worse over the last few weeks and im scratching my scalp to the point that its bleeding. Neither my dad or grandad has baldness so i doubt its hereditery. Im losing excess hair especially on the crown of my scalp.

Im afraid to run my hands through my hair because a lot of hair falls out everytime i do that. On closer inspection of my hair there appears to have a flaky white bit attached to its root. My scalp also get excessively oily and i need to wash it everyday, however i only shampoo it every 2/3 days.

Ive visited my doctor and he did a blood test for any deficiencies and thyroid problem and all turned out negative.
Can you please help me

First of all you never want your GP to do a thyroid test, because unless your thyroid is way out of whack his test will not show it.  You need to see an Endocrinologist for testing, they are capable of doing a more precise test to determine how your thyroid is, and your entire endocrine system which affects every organ in your body. I knew I had symptoms of hypothyroidism (with one being hair loss) and my GP did 2 tests and both came back normal.  Knowing something wasn't right he told me that he was referring me to an Endo who could do more precise testing.  This is when I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. You also need to see a dermatologist to rule out a skin problem on your scalp.  One your age should not be losing your hair at this rate, and I do think it's health related.  Since your hair is very oily I think it would be best to wash it every day, this won't harm your hair.  Good luck, I hope you find the cause of this problem.
