Hair Loss with Scalp Irritation

HI!
I am 23 years old and i have lost most of my hairs. when I was 17 years old I had severe typhoid. After that I started to loose my hair gradually from top of my head also remaining hair are so thin that most of which are hardly visible. I also experience irritation or itchiness in my scalp. to releave myself I used to apply some water and comb my hair. this makes me feel a little better for a few hours.Also the scalp in this area is hardened as compared to other areas. My hair line is quite normal and hair near temples are also in good shape. Hair thinning is only at frontal top section.
I am in a great trouble since 6 or 7 years and want to know the reason for this problem.
Are these signs of male pattern baldness or something else?
