Hair loss

My hair is thinning in the crown area. It falls on my sink each time I come it. The crown of my scalp itches severly. I've seen a dermatologist for this condition and he recommended biotin and other vitamins used for hair, skin and nails. His advise was to double the amount required. A few years ago my thyroid and scalp were checked by a medical specialist and the test results they each found indicated that I did not need any medication. Do you have any suggestions?
