Stress and hair loss?

Stress and hair loss?

A few months ago, I had an HIV scare...that is, I had sex on May 9 and symptoms started appearing on May 24.   I got freaked out when symptoms started to show up, and from late-May onwards to today I have been extremely stressed out.  Physical stress symptoms include muscle tension, chronic insomnia (inable to fall asleep at all for three weeks), fatigue, depression, and a whole bunch more....

I went to get tested at the end of July, and the test results came back as negative - i had been cleared of everything.

But still, the stress and anxiety still persists...I'm in a merry-go-around on "what if's" if the tests were not accurate.  Since mid-June, i have noticed that i have been losing a lot of hair in the shower and on my pillow....anywhere from 50-100 strands in the shower, and 10 strands on my pillow.   It is now taking a lot longer for my hair to grow.  As well, i have noticed that i am losing hair on my eyebrows...only a few strands of course.

Is my hair loss problem stress and anxiety induced?

Although I'm not a Dr, your hair loss seems to be stress related, not Alopecia.  Alopecia starts as a circle and gets bigger.  Stop stressing and live :)

You should know that it is natural for you to continue to be concerned about the "what ifs" but you may need to start concentrating on how to reduce your stress as to not have any additional health problems. If you are not able to reduce the stress through deep breathing and behavioral techniques you can try a small dosage of xanax which you can get through your primary care physician but do not try medication as a first step.

Take a day off and just relax you got over a HUGE hurdle its time to enjoy things

You're story is almost exactly equal to mine, even the dates! Glad I wasn't going through this alone! haha.. Although my stress was beyond extreme as I feared I had infected someone I love... 18 week tests came back negative. Lost hair from head, eyebrows, chest, legs.. really freaked me out. Still happening but not as much, will probably see a dermatologist if it persists. But i think once the stress and anxiety subsides so will the hair loss.
