TE what is causing this?

Hi,

I've had a whirlwind of issues since giving birth to my son three years ago. FInally after seeing an endocrinologist and going on vitamin D3, it seems I'm back on track.

However, I've noticed I've significantly thinned in the front of my scalp. Two factors that are different but not sure which is causing them. 1) I have been on Prozac since last year and 2) I stopped LoEstrin back in September to try to have another baby.

It seems that perhaps stopping the birth control could be the problem but is that more likely than the Prozac? Also if I go back on a birth control pill, will my hair grow back?

I had my thyroid checked and I'm in normal range so I'm not hypothyroid. I just don't know where to begin with this. I see my OB in two weeks. Shoudl I talk with her about it? I'm a bit hesitant to start Minoxanil since if it's a birth control pill issue, that is the easiest of things to change.

Hello,
What you are having is hair loss due to sudden stoppage of the birth control pills. Women who are predisposed to hormonal related hair loss or who are hypersensitive to the hormonal changes taking place in their bodies can experience hair loss to varying degrees while on the pill or more commonly, several weeks or months after stopping the pill.

Since your hair loss is not permanent it will grow back. Minoxidil or Finasteride can also be prescribed for the hair loss.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
