extreme shedding

I am a 19 year old college sophomore. I have a shedding problem. It's getting to the point of embarassment. My hair is all over my dorm room. I leave class and my hair is all over my desk. And unless cleaned after every use, the shower drain gets completely clogged with my hair. I have to constantly lint roll my clothes because the hair all over. Also, because it's long I tend to wear it in ponytails; however, when I take it down, ALOT of hair comes off--mostly attached to the hair elastic. I can't even brush it, without having to clean out my brush at least twice. At any given time, I can run my fingers through my hair and end up with a handful of hair. I don't know an exact number of strands I lose a day because that's too many to count. The weirdest thing is, I have and have always had very thick hair. Regardless of the extreme amount of hair I shed, it doesn't get any thinner. Do I just shed more than the average person or is it something else?

kkprtaterttot - Do you have bald spots?  It sounds like just thinning and does not sound like Alopecia.  You probably should see a doctor or the health services at your college because there could be a number of medical conditions that would cause this type of hair loss.
