teen with excessive hair loss for few years

by karlya123, Nov 03, 2009 08:44PM
Hi,

I realized that I have been losing lots of hair for perhaps 4 years now.  Whenever I wake up, hair is on my pillow, throughout the day, I will find hair strands on my clothes and shoulders.  In addition, when I wake up and run my hand through my hair, around 30 pieces comes off instantly.  I recently went to the doctor who gave me hair strengthening shampoo and I am taking Biotin 5mg for the past two weeks.  At first there seemed to be less hair loss, but after a few days of taking Biotin, the condition went back to normal.  I lose about 100 + pieces a day.  I am at the lowest point in self-esteem in my life now.  My scalp has been visible for years also.  I am just scared since I am just 17 and I dread washing my hair or waking up to the next morning.  I eat healthily, and don't have a thyroid problem.  All my female cousins have thick heads of hair.  I don't want to bald, what is happening? I am so scared.
