2 week headache

Hi guys. I've had a headache for the last 2 weeks. I made a doctor's appointment today. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with diagnosing this thing. I've done a lot of research on long headaches like this but none of the symptoms are exactly what I'm feeling. This headache is mild to moderate in pain (it isn't killing me). It feels like it hurts on the top of my head, on the back of my head and sometimes on both sides. Within a 5 minute interval, the pain can be great, and then all of a sudden feel like it isn't hurting as bad (i wouldn't say it is throbbing). It throbs if i stand up too fast, run, bend over or do any sudden physical activity. Also, sometimes I feel phlegm in the back of my throat...but no pain in my eyes and no nasal congestion. I have had any brain damage, or been in a car wreck where i could have hurt my head. I've never fallen on it or anything like that. I was in decent health before this started 2 Tuesdays ago.

Also, one important thing is this. I wake up daily at 6:30 am to get ready for work. I feel NO pain until about 10-11 AM.

Im going through the same thing and have been for 5 months, Im told I have cluster headaches but men are more prone to get them than women.  Look them up online they have alot of info on treatment and things you can do at home to make them better, hope this sheds some light,  I was also given Imatrex and it made me depressed and very tight feeling around my neck area. Now Im taking 5 mg valium and it seems to help.  take care, TX

Well, I just returned from my doctor's appointment. Basically he said "I'm not 100% sure what could be causing this". He said it COULD be sinuses but it could also be tension headaches, or worse. I have to get set up for an MRI on Monday to get more information I guess. Does anyone know how much this could potentially cost? I have blue cross/blue shield insurance through general motors (if that helps at all).

I was perscribed some sort of sinus medication that apparently is somewhat like musinex but more powerful. I was also given a barbiturate named Epes Plus or something like that. Apparently the barbiturate will relieve me of my headaches, but it obviously won't just eliminate them all together. I'm really hoping this is not an aneurysm or a tumor. This is starting to get scary when the doctor says "I don't know exactly what it is" and then sets me up for an MRI. I hope you guys understand that this is making me very worried. My fiance has been listening to me complain about the pain for over 2 weeks now, so she's about had it with my venting.

I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks for everyone's help and input.

Thanks for the info, couple other questions.  The pain is off and on, couple times I actually thought I was over it, and then the headache would come back.  Mild headaches mostly.  Today I felt normal, more than I have in the last 2 weeks but tonight the pressure seems to be getting worse again.  Still think it could be sinusitis?  I am on no medication.  I had phemonia/strep throat/yeast infection in my mouth at the end of Jun.  Dr thinks it is still something from then I did not get over, but between then and now, I felt healthy for a week and a half.  My fear is it is a tumor or aneurysm, I feel a little out of it now and then, but not like real bad, or enough to miss work.  I dont normally get a lot of headaches, and this past week I have taken no meds for the pain I have had.  Also with the couple times I had pains in my neck/shoulder, can it be some kind of pinched nerve causing the headaches?  I am scheduled to do CT scan next week, but hope by then I am better.  Thanks for the info.

Hi,

Even though you do not have runny nose, still there is a possibility of sinusitis as your pain worsens on bending over.
Another possibility is tension headache and pain due to eye conditions like poor eyesight or astigmatism. These pains get worse with the passage of time.
Exact diagnosis is only possible after a through clinical examination. Do let me know if you need more information.
Take care!

I have similar symptoms which I am trying to figure out what they are, my fear is it is something serious.  I went to a DR. last Fri, and am scheduled to do a CT Scan and bloodwork.  I do however have some pain in my eyes, down my right side of neck to shoulders.  It has been going on almost 2 weeks now.  Pains come and go.  I am interested ot know what you find out.  Thanks.
