hi, i am a 57 year old women, i been having headaches and upset stomach for the past four months, so i went to visit my doctor. She had a CT scan and MRI done. I have a benign meningioma tumor 2.3 cm x 1.7 cm on left back side of brain. they are telling me the tumor been there for 20 years. my head hurts when i lay on my left side, headaches and upset stomach all the time. is this tumor to old to be remove. what are my options when a tumor is so old.
A brain tumor is operated upon if it is causing compression symptoms like tingling, numbness, loss of vision, speech, hearing or function of a limb (symptoms vary with site of compression), or causes dizziness, unbearable headaches, vomiting etc. If the tumor has been there for 20 years and not increasing in size, then it is less likely to cause your headaches. However, if it is increasing in size or causing pressure, then it will be operated provided there is no major threat for life (anyways all brain surgeries are risky).
Hence, since you have upset stomach, you need to find the cause for that. Upset stomach can also cause headache and can be due to gastric reflux and acidity, IBS, Crohn's, celiac disease, liver or pancreatic dysfunction.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please discuss with your treating doctor. Take care!
