6 year old TBI

my 6 year old niece fell, had a significan brain bleed, she underwent a craniectomy
last evening and is still unconscious.  WHe is responding to stimuli to hands and feet. Has
stopped having seizures.  Is it common to still be unconscious, when should we expect her to wake up?

Hi!
I am so sorry to hear about your niece. Yes, it is very common to be unconscious after a major brain bleed, even after cases where blood has been drained. The good sign is that she is responding to stimuli, and seizures have stopped. It is very difficult to chart out a course of progress as brain recovery is very unpredictable. Do stay in touch with her neurologist for an update on her progress. Take care!

Wishing you all the very best!  Thinking of you and sending many ((hugs)).  My 11 yr old son had a brain event a little over a year ago and it was one of the scariest times.  His brain knew what to do.  It rested and began to heal.  It took awhile.  I will be praying for her.  Keep us updated.
