What cause punctate FLAIR hyperintensities in corona radiata and centrum semiovale?
Avatar_dr_f_tn
Hi!
T2 FLAIR hyperintensities are usually suggestive of widened perivascular spaces, brain aging, migraine, vasculitis, ischaemic or hypoxic-ischaemic changes, haemorrhagic foci, inflammatory changes, multiple sclerosis, central pontine and extrapontine myelinolysis, cancer metastases, radio-and chemotherapy related changes, neurometabolic diseases, CNS degenerative diseases, and eclampsia of pregnancy. FLAIR hyperintensities in corona radiata and centrum semiovale are seen in toxic leukoencephalopathy. These areas are areas of high cerebral function, and their damage usually occurs either due to heroin addiction or due to radiation or chemotherapy. Please consult your neurologist for a clinical correlation.
Take care!
