Elevated B/P post closed head injury

Elevated B/P post closed head injury

7 weeks ago I was involved and a serious car wreck (multiple rollover). I had a closed head injury with no brain injury found. Since the accident my B/P has been high. I am still going 3 days a week to rehab (dizziness/balance issues since wreck). I have been put on different meds latest Diovan 160mg. It is still not working. I am have more frequent headaches some are migranes (migraines). I see my neuologist in a couple of weeks. What could be causing the elevated b/p?

Hi,

How are you?  In traumatic injuries of the head, autonomic dysfunction syndrome (ADS) usually results.  This ay present as hypertension, fever, tachycardia, tachypnea, pupillary dilation, and extensor posturing. This is due to an elevation of catecholamine and acetylcholine levels in magnitudes that are proportional to the severity of injury. Diagnosis of ADS is one of exclusion, because there are no definitive tests or findings. (ref: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/325994-overview)

Take care and regards.
