Head punctured -- got the brush off. Help?

Head punctured -- got the brush off. Help?

I was camping and yes, drinking was involved -- and took a nasty spill, and face planted into a large rock but thankfully we had an EMT and military medic with us. I have a puncture about two inches above my left eyebrow, was told it was about an inch deep.  Our sobers ( we are semi responsible campers, after all! ) drove me to the ER after the medic/EMT attempted butterfly stitches to no avail.  I have absolutely no memory of what happened after the hit -- just woke up the next morning in a lot of pain.  I have severe swelling, got an internal stitch and three external -- but the doctor (who I was later informed was extremely rude) said I didnt have a concussion because I was awake, even though I have absolutely no recollection of any of the events.  I couldn't walk, started throwing up, and when we left he said I should probably just go take some ibuprofen and have another drink to ease the pain.  Haven't drank anything since, was very tired, dizzy -- it's been almost 2 days and I'm still nauseas and dizzy, and my fiancé said I'm acting really loopy and out of it.  Should I go get a 2nd opinion, the headaches are terrible, I can't sleep even though I'm really tired, and if I move too fast I get horrid vertigo and start feeling nauseas and feel like I'm going to pass out.   Thanks :)

I had a similar incident and hit the back of my head 2+ years ago.  Taken to ER and seems to be awake (from the reports), obeyed all command etc., and I didn't remember anything at all for about 8 hours. Total amnesia.  Discharged and went home even though  I had terrible headaches, dizziness, cannot smell anything etc.,  3 days later my PCP did a CT scan and found out I am bleeding on the brain.

Head injuries can be very tricky.  Did they take any scans?  If not go to ER asap and get a demand a scan.  Your symptoms have to be seriously looked into by trained doctors who knows about head injuries (not the one like you saw before).
I am still suffering from lot of symptoms.

You have to get someone to take care of the kitty-cat and  back to an emergency room immediately, preferably a designated trauma center. That means as of five-minutes from now. Not six minutes from now. Not seven minuites from now. Not the same hospital.

There are some "missing pieces" to your emergency room experience. You should have been admitted for observation and had an MRA and an MRI. If these were not available then a CT. It is not unusual for patients who have suffered injuries to be extremely difficult and become "potty mouthed". Usually, when they are on their way to recovery they apologize for their behavior. Only a new physician would fail to recognize this.

There is a possibility you have a subdural hematoma, as well as a concussion. Either condition could result in a lifetime of problems.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Yes, you must get a second opinion. It is quite evident that you have some concussion since you have no recollection of some incidents after the injury. You need to consult a neurologist as soon as possible or go to an emergency room and get evaluated for head injury and concussion. You may also need a MRI of the brain. The headaches could just be due to the hit, or due to tight stitch or even due to infection under the stitch.
Hence you need a complete evaluation. Take care!

Thanks all for your advice.  Went in and got a CT and I didn't crack anything or have internal bleeding, just a nasty concussion in the frontal lobe region.  The local Er doc was much more helpful and let me know what signs and symptoms to look out for and what to expect.  She was pretty surprised the other doc didn't Ct me immediately, but all is well now.  Thanks again!
