Hit head when I fainted a few days ago

by cmpLtNOOb, Jul 04, 2009 06:35PM
I fainted about two days ago when I stood up too quickly.  I fell to the ground and woke up as soon as I hit the ground.  I was fine afterwards.  On the way down though I apparently hit my head on the side of a kitchen counter.  It didn't really hurt too badly when I came to, and hasn't since.  I haven't had any symptoms since then but want to be sure before I decide what to believe.

It doesn't hurt just by itself, only when I press on the spot where my head hit.  Also, when i open my mouth real wide or yawn it hurts just about 2 inches above my right ear.  The pain has been steadily going away though.  Should I be worried if this is all that has happened by this point?

Hi,

How are you? Postural hypotension usually results to blackouts when there is an abrupt change in position. The bump that occured is just minor in nature and it will subside after a few days. Putting ice and over-the-counter pain medications may help. However, BP monitoring is highly recommended to rule out hypotension. If it occurs again, have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Take care and best regards.

Please have a CT scan if you blacked out.  I hit my head on ice when I was 8 and had a similar thing.  Although it was not subdural I did have a clot above the skull and it was very painful.  They shaved my head and drained the area.  My dad was just diagnosed with a subdural hemotoma that was determined to be old.  He is 76 and was is great health.  The hemotoma is now flaking off and bleeding and causing violent seizures.  An asprin a day is not good either.  Tylenol is better if it is bleeding.  Prognosis is hard to take right now.  Better safe than sorry.
