I'm a recovering alcoholic, I've been in sobriety for 20yrs. I watched my mother get beaten for many of my childhood years. My father finally took his own life very violently. He was a good man & we all loved him very much but, he had a serious illness(problem). It started with emotional abuse and then progressed to physical violence. Stop it now before it progresses, love means taking measures you do not always want to do. Sometimes we have to hurt ones we care for because we love them. There is no accepted level of abuse & you are in danger. Don't pass it off or make excuses for what he has done. Go see a doctor and get diagnosed, tell your doctor the truth. Find addiction services  & if they advise you to report it to the police (which is what I would do) then do so. As a previous violent alcoholic, I am taking a chance and pouring out my heart to you. This may sound harsh but it is not, it is called tough love. If you are enduring this already, I,m sure you must really love him; not to have already fled. You are in danger & you are not betraying him so don't feel a sense of guilt. Your blow to the face may well have caused a concussion & can lead to further problems. I have been and am recovering from concussion since a severe fall on June 22, 2008. I will keep you in my prayers & am willing to help you if I can but, PLEASE, YOU MUST HELP YOURSELF!!! May God keep you safe.

yours caring Daniel
