Hi, I am an 18 year old male who is still suffering from the effects of multiple concussions in high school. I had one my junior year, which was not too serious, and the effects of it soon cleared up. However, the next year, I received a violent blow to the head (football again) in which my mouthpiece wasn't in correctly. I was wearing a revolution helmet, the supposedly concussion proof helmets, which cracked all the way down the side from where I got hit. I blacked out momentarily and got up a few moments later having little recollection as to what happened. I told my coach I didnt feel well, and sat out. I was feeling a little woozy, but didn't think much of it. I decided to go back in for a few more plays at the ed of practice, as it was the homecoming game. As it were, I got whacked in the head again, but did not black out this time. I felt very dizzy and wobbly though. Amazingly I managed to drive home and even eat. After eating, I realized the lights were bothering me greatly and gave me a headache. I decided to just go to bed.
As a result, from my ignorance about concussions and foolish stubbornness, I endure the lingering effects of my injury. I had MRI's, cat scans, xrays, and multitudes of neurological tests. I have permanent damage, which impairs my cognitive function, and forces me to take medications to get through the day normally.
This isn't a question, just as a warning to anyone who thinks that they may have a concussion, don't brush it off, or think it will go away. Go see your doctor
