Minor head injury causing sticky fluid

by bombaykitty, Oct 24, 2009 08:03AM
Hello,

Recently I somehow got a minor head injury, nothing like a concussion but just some surface injury.  I'm not sure how I got it, but it itches and when I scratch it sometimes there's blood (I assume from my scratching).  The problem is that it secretes this sticky, yellow-ish fluid that smells really weird/bad and since it's on my head it sticks to my hair and so the whole chunk of hair covering this injury becomes hard when the liquid dries (like if you put gel in it) and it smells.

I'm not sure what to do about this, I would imagine if this injury was on another part of the body it would heal just like a regular surface injury, but since it's on my head and complicated by my hair in the way everytime I wash my hair or even brush it it seems to reopen and more of that fluid oozes out.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can go about solving this issue?  What's the best way to get this injury healed as quickly as possible?

Thank you.

Hi,
It could be a laceration. There could be an infection leading to oozing out of pus from the lacerated region. Please take oral antibiotics like Tab. Cifran and apply local antiseptic ointments like Soframycin or Betadine  for a quick healing. The hair on the affected part need to be cut short for proper application of ointment. Please brush your hair carefully avoiding trauma to the wound. Avoid taking a head bath till the area dries up of pus. Please consult a physician if the symptoms persist. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
