Oral Fixation

My son is 27 he has a Traumatic Brain Injury from a hit run. He is very fixated on wanting to eat all the time, always asking for food. He also will chew on his shirt and face washers, I guess lots of things. He never seems to swallow things that he should not but he will spit them out or spit when asked to spit it out. He has put some weight on but I  I give him fruit and veg rather than junk. I am interested is there something I can do to help him with this? I know he is bored and we are working on getting him home out of care. Please help us :)

Hi!
Yes, in all probability he is bored and also TBI can result in some personality changes. You can devise a routine that will keep him engaged and happy and keep his mind away from hunger. Incorporate activities he can do, walks either assisted/wheelchair/self depending on his activity level, mind games he can play, and other such activities such as physical therapy etc. Have his friends visit him and yes, spending time at out of home care will also help. If still the problem persists then please consult his neurologist. Hope this helps. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
