Post brain injury dizzyness

by nanonana, Oct 21, 2008 05:15PM
Hi,about 14 months ago I tripped over my dog and fell heavily hitting the back of my head on a concrete window sill, on sitting up my arms and fingers and legs went all tingley and when I tried to speak it came out a slurred jumble. I spent a week in hospital with a bruise on the front of my brain. Since then I have found that I often (when stressed) get a feeling of pressure and an ache on my head where I hit the sill. I also feel very fuzzy headed, find it hard to concentrate and sometimes when I am walking I feel that I am leaning to one side, its strange and frustrating as I am a busy person and it is affecting my productivity.I have had another ct which showed a small cyst where the bruise initially was. Can anyone add some light onto why I am feeling like this, maybe I should get another ct where they put dye into your veins to show up other things, If anyone can put some light onto this problem I would be most grateful

By all means, get an MRA. That's where they put the dye in the veins/arteries.  I had it to confirm a vertebral artery dissection.  I had been seeing an ENT for 2 years and taking antivert & hygroten, but was having severe migraines, etc....I was so determined to find out what was really wrong with me that I went to Johns Hopkins.  They did tests, but sent me home to get a brain MRI due to insurance coverage costs, and that confirmed that I had a stroke from the brain trauma 2 years before.  I then got the MRA to show that it did in fact happen.  I cannot tell you how important it is to take charge of your own health care and not wait for the doctors to see you a bunch of times and still not have put the puzzle together.  I now take charge of my own care.  If I have pain in my arm, I see a specialist, because if I go to my GP I will likely get sent there anyway OR he will try to treat me for everything  before sending me......which sometimes is not the best. Case example. My mother-in-law uses the same doctor. She went to him with an ankle injury. He found a break on Xray.  She has brittle bones. He tried to treat her himself and put a boot on her. She suffered for 4 months....then decided to go to a bone and joint specialist. Luckily, I had splinted her foot when it happened! Anyway, long store short, she was on the verge of  having to get surgery, but luckily they were able to do some alternative stuff and put back on the original splint that I had used which was given to me when I had a foot injury a month prior to hers.  It took 6 months for her to get back "on her feet", and it would have been shorter and less painful had she told the doctor that she'd feel best to see a specialist!!!
