Problems after Shunt replacement

I had a shunt replacement in Feb and they inserted a new VP magnetic shunt. Since the same night I have suffered problems.  Now 8 months later I am still suffering from  headaches/migraines and lack of concentration. Dr's seem to think my brain had a bigger hit then they realised.  Is there an end to these headaches?

I have seen a Neuro Surgeon since op and Neurologist. Both declare shunt is working as it should be. I have had several CT scans since which apparently show shunt is working fine.
Neuro Surgeon did tweak up my shunt as a CT scan about a month after op showed over drainage.  I then suffered worse headaches so it was reset back to original setting.  On a follow-up appointment he said my shunt is working and what I am getting as symptoms appear to be more related to the actual surgery and the brains ability to cope with this and passed me over to a Neurologist.
Neurologist said basically the problems I have are all to do with my nervous system, trying to cope with ongoing headaches.    He said that the shunt is working as it should and part of my problem was that I was breathing wrongly, mainly to try and compensate with headaches, this was making my lungs, heart etc work overtime, causing me shortness of breath to.  I have reduced one of the drugs (Amitrip) and this has helped a lot with the breathing. He really didn’t give any explanation as to why I have been getting the headaches. No further appointment made to see him again.
The problem I have is where I live there is no Neuro Suregon or Neurologist.

I have been to a Pain Clinic where the Physio poked at neck and that caused agony.  She felt some faults are caused from neck as it has a slight curviture in it. This is probably caused from the position I would have been during op.  I haven't been able to lie on back of head/neck for long since op without getting an all round headache so some pain could be from this maybe.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The symptoms could be due to over drainage or under drainage of CSF. This needs to be investigated. It can also be due to VP shunt induced sub dural hematomas and loculation of the ventricular system (forming small localized areas). Please consult your neurologist immediately and get this assessed.
Hope this helps. Take care!
