Starnge symptoms weeks after concussion...

I took a very serious head injury (concusion) playing rugby nearly 2 and a half months ago and have no recolection of the event as i have memory loss of the injury occuring. Ever since i took this injury i have experienced the following symptoms consistently, these are things which are irregular to my health:

- Short Term Memory loss
- Nose bleeds
- Sharp shooting pains in the right side of my head
- Long head aches
- The inability to get to sleep

I have no clue as to what these symptoms mean and would appreciate it massively if anyone could help me out.

Thanks Liam (18)

Hi,

How are you? I'm sorry to hear what you have been through for the past 3 years. Post concussion syndrome is indeed real. I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.

Hi, I fell from an 18-wheeler onto pavement, hitting my left shoulder and then, my back and my neck and head 'snapped'....I had 11 stitches to close the wound in the back of my head. That was 3 years ago, and I still have dizzy spells, (if I turn suddenly) and occasional vomitting. Trouble sleeping if i end up on the back of my head....

A neurologist noted, the 'cT-scan is normal'....and that it is just 'post concussion syndrome' which sounds like I must be a hypochondriac. I promise you, it is not imagined.

(ref: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/concussion/page2_em.htm#Concussion%20Symptoms) The symptoms may resolve after some time or may persists.  After initial treatment, it is important to go to your follow-up appointments for evaluation and monitoring.
