Stroke and frontal lobe removal

My friend has just had a major stroke and two major brain surgeries. They have removed most of the brain matter of his frontal lobe. We are told he is also paralyzed on his right side. He is 30 years old, and was fit and completely healthy. They don't know what caused it. Is there any chance of any sort of recovery? Will he ever be anything close to what he was before? Will he recognize people or be able to process anything normally?

Sorry but the brain can not regenerate. In some very, very rare cases the brain has used different "paths" to reach another section that was not injured. But with most of his frontal lobe removed there is nothing that can be done. It is just a waiting game now.

Thanks so much for replying. We are still waiting for him to wake up. Not sure if he will... Hoping for the best, but I guess I have to be realistic. Is there any chance of any sort of regeneration of parts of the brain, or is that just unheard of?

First I would like to say I am sorry to hear about your friend.
It sounds like he pretty much had a frontal lobotomy and when large portions of the lobe are removed the procedure can have severe negative effects on a persons personality and ability to function independently. The frontal lobes play a big part in motor function, problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, initiation, judgement, impulse control, and social and sexual behavior.Sorry but the odds of him being like he was before the stroke and surgeries are not good, but never give up hope. The human mind is an amazing thing.
