Worry about Concussion - Please Help

by Coatesy, Oct 30, 2009 05:29AM
I was hit on the head with a football around the end of august then around early to mid September I banged the top (middle) of my head on a solid wood fireplace while getting up, didn’t knock me out but did feel a bit dazed.
Was getting the odd headache since then but didn’t think much of it until around the beginning of October when I was working (On computer a lot) and suddenly got blurred vision and strange visual disturbances which lasted about 2mins then since then the headaches worsened off and on usually with a dull aching pressure pain around the point where I banged my head on the fireplace kind of like something throbbing and a ringing pressure in my ears.
Went to the doctors and was diagnosed with concussion. Rest and pain killers, I thought ok 
Then I started getting numb tingling in my finger tips on my left hand, mainly my little finger, also now have a strange feeling in my left ear (with some pain) feels like I’m going deaf but can still hear?
Still have a bit of blurred vision and a lot more tired than usual (No Energy), Feel spaced out most of the time, like my head isn’t mine (If that makes sense)
Get quite emotional at times aswell, making my self paranoid thinking its something more serious than Concussion, feeling a bit sick at times aswell (Not actually been sick) but some of my family have had this aswell so not sure if it is just a bit of a bug or could be because I’m feeling anxious a lot. Find myself going to bed around 7pm (instead of my usual 11pm-1am!) as I feel so knackered all the time, especially after work.
Also suffer from lack of enthusiasm at times, feel like im being miserable and feel guilty afterwards.
Even went to A & E cuz I got myself that worked up my fiancée insisted I went and they again said concussion, nothing to worry about just rest.
Please help as I am really getting fed up and tired of feeling rough now and cant stop myself worrying that its something worse, I have a fiancée and 3 yr old daughter and feel really guilty as I am not the usual me and feel guilty for that.
The headaches are not all the time, I have a numb pressure with the odd sharp pain, mainly around the point I banged my head and around the ears and behind my eyes.

I had a concussion after a car accident back in 1993 and had headaches--dizziness--ringing in the ears for about a full year!   It got gradually better over that year but still to this very day if I am over tired I get dizzy--16 years later.   I had all the tests--also a permanent condition--one pupil remains slightly larger that the other.  I started getting ocular migraines after the car accident too .  Well, so far no epilepsy or other serious long term effects.

If you were diagnosed with post concussion syndrome like me,  it should  gradually get better too.  I gave myself panic attacks worring about it---but, all ok !
Good luck and try not to worry if you've already had all the tests.

Thanks for your reply  I’ve been worrying for so long now that its something more serious, I have a fiancée and a 3 year old daughter and the thought of it being serious really scares me.
I saw the doctor last Tuesday and she prescribed me Amitryptyline 25mg every night and that seems to have took the severe headache off, just get the odd minor headache now and again (That could be due to me working on computers most of the day, although I do take regular breaks now)
Still don’t feel myself, not very socialable (which is unusual for me). Getting a strange warm aching pain around right temple down to right eye and cheek?.
Part of me is still worrying it could be more serious than concussion, I try to block those feelings out but sometimes cant.
Doctor says go back in a month (sooner if symptoms get worse or change) so I guess it’s a wait and see game.
