Hello,
Ataxia is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross incoordination of muscle movements.Ataxia is an aspecific clinical manifestation implying dysfunction of parts of the nervous system that coordinate movement, such as the cerebellum.
There can be cerebellar, sensory or vestibular ataxia.
You can find more information about ataxia from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ataxia
Head pressing means persistent pushing with the head against a fixed object. It is a part of the dummy syndrome as in hepatic encephalopathy or encephalitis.
Circling means attacks of vertigo or syncope that is very common in most neurological illnesses. It can also be due to partial or complete blockage of the blood supply to the brain as seen in transient ischemic attacks and stroke respectively.
Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
What does atxia, head pressing and circling mean????
Hello,
Occipital region is the region that controls the vision centre of the brain. If there is encephalomalcia of that area then it might effect the vision. But nothing can be said with clearity without looking at CT or MRI brain.
Encephalomalcia of occipital region means that damage has already been done to the brain as a result of stroke. So nothing can be done with that part of the brain that has already softened. It won’t come back to normal.
Did your child suffer from epileptic fits? What is the cause of stroke in your child? If it was some epileptic foci, then he has to continue taking antiepileptics. He also has to take medicines for stroke for a long time.Doctors may decide for neurosurgery to remove the encephalomaciac portion of the brain depending on the severity and area of brain involved.
Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
Hello,
Encephalomalacia is also called cerebromalacia. It is a localized softening of the brain substance, due to hemorrhage or inflammation. Three varieties, distinguished by their color and representing different stages of the morbid process, are known respectively as red, yellow, and white softening.
But now the term is used to include degenerative diseases of the brain generally. Leukoencephalomalacia refers to the white matter, polioencephalomalacia to the gray matter. The syndrome associated with encephalomalacia is primarily one of loss of function including somnolence, blindness, ataxia, head pressing, circling and terminal coma.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_encephalomalacia_its_symptoms_and_treatment
Cerebromalacia refers to loss of brain tissue. It is most commonly seen as a long-term result of stroke or trauma. So It is a descriptive term rather than the name of a disease.Once encephalomalacia sets in,it means that damage to the brain has already been done.Treatment and prognosis will depend upon the area affected by encephalomalacia and the centres present in that area.
Take care and regards.
