Breath of fire video...really good

http://youtu.be/Vs6zsi0fDfc

This is a link to a really good video on youtube.

The Yogi is Harijiwan, he teaches a style of yoga known as Kundalini.  I am in the process of kind of learning about this type of yoga/meditation.  It is very different from  the "westernized" Hatha Yoga that most people are familiar with.  I used to do Hatha Yoga before my back injury for exercise and I think it is amazing for physical health.

Kundalini yoga is a bit different.  I am not an expert, (although I think there may be some floating around on MedHelp) on this type of yoga, but in my experience it is actually more accesable for me.  a lot of this type of yoga is done seated, which is good for someone like me who really can't do the more physical aspects of American style yoga.

This video gives some info on a Kundalini yoga exercise called "breath of fire".  This is a breathing technique AKA Pranayam used in Kundalini yoga.  These are special ways of breathing that have an effect on not just the body, but the mind.

I started working with the breath of fire recently, and I do think it is a meditation/exercise that i will continue to incorporate into my daily practice.

And I use the word "practice" specifically because it really is like "practice' everyday.  An aspect of Kundalini yoga and meditation that I really appreciate is the understanding that one can incorporate the yechniques at whatever stage or ability they have.  That way I don't feel as if I am not doing it "right", even if it is a day that I can only do 20 or so breaths. With Kundalini,  Even a small ability is an ability, and progress grows from whatever point you start. :D

Anywhooo....This video is a good way to think about the breath of fire. Like your body is bellows pumping equal amounts of air in and out of the lungs....

FYI, if you are used to the kind of yoga teachers that wear fancy yoga pants, twist into contortionist positions, never sweat, and always look like they are in a toothpaste commercial, you may be suprised by the teacher in the video.  He is dressed in the all white clothing and turban that is traditional among Sikhs.  He also has a long beard and looks a tad unusual compared to what we are accostomed to in the west.

Does anyone else have a breath of fire experience?  What worked/didn't work for you?
