Getting a new specialist on Blue Cross CA PPO

by RRoss34, Mar 19, 2007 12:00AM
My specialist is booked for over 3 weeks and while it's not a medical emergency, it's not something that can wait over 3 weeks.  Do I have any other options?

Do you need a referral to see a specialist? Many of the PPO plans are "Freedom" plans and you can see a specialist without a referral. If you don't need a referral then you can go on the BC site and find another specialist and go to them. If you need a referral then you can call your PCP to ask for another referral (it may be easiest if you find someone with availability, make an appointment, and then ask for a referral to that specialist).
Good luck

So sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting in to see your doctor.  The only thing I can suggest is call your primary physician and ask him/her to contact this specialist on your behalf.  Sometimes this works.  Another option would be to try to find another specialist who can see you earlier.  Wish I had more suggestions.

If you have a PPO plan. You don't need a referrel to see a doctor . Just find a new dr and call them for an appt. Make  you they are contracted with Blue Cross because an out of network dr will call you more out of your pocket.

You are lucky. My Endocrinologist is always booked 3 months in advance !

One suggestion I have for you is that you can ask the office staff to call you if they have a cancellation. Chances are... they will have at least one cancellation in the next three weeks.
