HSA How does this work? Is it best?

I have no Insurance because I have no job. I plan on getting one as soon as someone will hire me. In the mean time, I have many health concerns that need to be checked and 3 very bad teeth. I was thinking of getting an HSA. How exactly does this work through my bank? If ill and concerned, is it worth trying to save enough money to go to DOC with no insurance? Is it best to just go in and run up bills?OR,  Do I just wait until serious complications arise and go to the ER? If I have an HSA and put some money into it each month, does the ammount gain intrest and grow? I need $1,050 just to have my teeth pulled and anit-biotics. Last year spent Over $300 to rid infection and More than that for the x-rays. Silly dentist was trying to make a $1,600 per tooth root canal sound obtainable to me. HA! Just get them out I say! At the time I had 2 bad teeth, now three. Just paid off $3,400 bill for MRI. And bills for ER and X-ray for gout. What is my best bet? Employment is obvious, but I cannot control employers to hire me.

Dear strawberry78,

First of all let me start with explaining how HSA plans work.
• An HSA is a tax-favored savings account that may be used in conjunction with an HSA- eligible high deductible health insurance plan to pay for qualifying medical expenses.
Choosing an HSA-eligible health insurance plan may help you save money. Typically, the monthly premium on an HSA-eligible high deductible plan is less expensive than the monthly premium for a lower-deductible health insurance plan.
• Contributions to an HSA may be made pre-tax, up to certain annual limits.
• Funds in the HSA may be invested at your discretion. Unused funds remain in the account and accrue interest year-to-year, tax-free.
• Not all high-deductible plans are eligible for use in conjunction with an HSA.
So in your case, you will have to apply & go through the process of underwriting & get approved for an HSA eligible Health Insurance plan before you open your HSA Bank account.

You wrote that you have "many health concerns" & it is not clear if that statement refers to mainly dental or you have medical concerns as well.

Feel free to elaborate more on your concerns & I will be happy you.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
