Individual Insurance Plan with Pre-existing Condition

Individual Insurance Plan with Pre-existing Condition

Hello,

I have a pre-existing condition and I currently have health insurance through the local government.  I may need to move to a different state to go back to school, but the school does not offer group insurance.  I am required to buy individual insurance.  Would insurance companies look at my past medical histories even if I am currently covered? I know that I may be denied coverage if I were to have a lapse in coverage, but what happens if I already have coverage but just want to buy an individual plan?  Would my premiums be higher?

Do you know of any insurance carriers that offer health plans that are portable?  I will need to travel for part of my schooling and will need to have health coverage that will cover me in multiple states.

I appreciate any information you may have.

Dear ChrisCA,

One option is to enroll in a guarantee issued student health plan; which means you will not get declined due to a pre-existing condition. You can find this product on www.eHealthInsurance.com under student plans. Once you get to the landing page, hover your mouse over Individual & Family on the top left corner and you will find a tab for Student Plans.

Considering your pre-existing condition, pay close attention for the coverage to make sure, it will meet the needs of your pre-existing issues.

Sincerely,
