International Student

Hello, I am an American citizen and I will be going to college in Canada for three years.  They have some basic health insurance that is included in our school fees.  But they are kind of iffy on pre-existing conditions.

So I am looking for a plan that will help cover my prescription costs, as well as bi-yearly office visits to a specialist.

I am also seeing a psychologist for anxiety and ADD.

Dental and vision would be nice as well.

I am not too concerned with coverage while in the States as I will be spending most of the year in Canada.

I have a lot of research, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice about health insurance providers or even if I should be looking for a provider here in the States, or in Canada.

The insurance provided by the college is CampusCare, International Student Health Insurance Program provided by Manulife Financial.

Dear PhotoBum,

To get insurance from a US based insurance carriers, one needs to reside in the US for at least 6 months out of a year in one particular State.

I would contact the school & learn as much as possible, about what they offer so you can optimize your utilization of their program.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
