Is Treatment for Primary Amyloidosis covered by most corporate insurance policie

My boyfriend was recently treated for Primary Amyloidosis of the Urinary Bladder. Since then, I have been researching this disease and found much good information about it on the internet including symptoms and treatment. Several sites suggested that he should be screened for Systemic Primary Amyloidosis. When he approached his Primary Care Physician about being tested, he was told that the tests are expensive, there is no viable treatment, and insurance doesn't cover it. The physycian went on to say that if my boyfriend does indeed have Systemic Primary Amyloidosis he will die in a couple of years and does he really want to know when he's going to die. The issue was closed until last night when he showed me that his ankle was swollen and he hadn't injured it. It was purple where his shoe started. From what I've read that may be a sign that his kidneys are effected. Today I sent him a bunch of links to websites about the signs, symptoms and treatment of Systemic Primary Amyloidosis. He agrees that he should be tested but probably won't do it because he was told by his doctor that his health insurance won't cover it. I really don't want to stand by and watch this wonderful man suffer death by organ failure if there is treatment available to him. How does this doctor know that his health insurance won't cover it? Why wouldn't Health insurance, through the big corporation that he works for, not cover it? Is there no help for him? I am deeply worried! I would be grateful for any information you could give me. In this case, your boyfriend needs to go back to his PCP, show him the new signs & talk his doc. into referring him to a specialist. His PCP should not have any problem with that & if he does, it is easy to change PCPs. All you do is call your Carrier & tell them that you want to change your PCP & give them the new PCP info!  

When you change PCPs, the change goes into effect on the 1st of the following month.
