Is long-term care insurance worth it?

I am 38 and may have parkinson's disease. I work for a small company that does not offer long-term insurance, and I'm wondering if I should purchase it prior to going to see a doctor. From what I've looked at so far, it sounds like the insurance companies can drop you or raise your premiums at any time. In addition, I've read that companies can put restrictions on just how disabled you have to be in order to make claims. If I do have PD, it may be several years before I need to use the insurance, but I don't know how I would pay for full-time care otherwise. I'm afraid that once I have a diagnosis, I won't be able to obtain insurance.

Is long-term care a good choice? Are there certain things I should look for in a long-term care policy? Are there alternatives I should consider? I just don't want to see my family go bankrupt with medical bills. Any guidance you may have would be greatly appreciated.
