Major medical insurance with a pre existing cancer condition

My wife is 62 had breast cancer 3 years ago and is fine now.  I am 60 with high blood pressure which has been controlled nicely with diet and licinapril.  We are currently on COBRA, but it expires November, 2009.  There are so many companies online and it totally confusing and too many gimmicks to understand.   I am checking to see if there are any Major Medical programs available in Charlotte County, FL to cover our needs.

You should start with checking into CoverFlorida at http://coverfloridahealthcare.com/ which is Florida State’s solution for individuals who are in need of guaranteed coverage (regardless of any pre-existing conditions). These plans are offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida & United Health Care which are both the 2 largest health insurance providers in the state. There are a number of plans with variety of benefit structure & prices and both carriers have provided their toll free numbers in case you have any questions.

Your other option is to exercise your HIPAA rights & apply for one the many family plans that are available in the Individual market and if you plan to do so, your best bet is talk to a licensed agent first.
