Marriage and medicaid

May fiance and I were planning to marry next month.  He was in an accident in December, 2008 and now cannot work for probably two years.  He is in the process of trying to get medicaid and disability.  If we get married before this kicks in, will he still be able to get it or even after we get married if he gets disability will they cut out his medicaid.
Thank you.

Dear Tinka1016,

Getting married is not going to impact your fiancé’s eligibility to receive SS disability, however once you get married, your income is going to count towards his household income & that may impact his eligibility for Medicaid.

He can find out from his qualified caseworker if your income is high enough to disqualify him for Medicaid.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
