Medicare/medigap plans

Medicare/medigap plans

Dear Sir,
I am more than confused at this point. I am on medicare and have an advantage plan I'm not fond of. I'm also under 65. I'm checking into another medi-gap policy. I went online and got into some kind of broker's website and now I'm being inundated with insurance salespeople. What they are not trying to offer me is medi-gap policies but instead medical discount plans. I understand medigap policies are very expensive for someone under 65/disabled. Are the discount plans worthwhile to look at? One rep told me to look at National Benefit Advisory Assn. plans- is this considered insurance?  I would still have to get part D with this plan, right?

Dear heart2heart,

It sounds like you volunteered your information to a lead aggregator & your lead has been provided to multiple entities.

Here are some facts that may help you understand Discount programs/plans better;
a) Discount plans buy you membership to a provider network. The only time discount plans are helpful is when your providers (doctors, pharmacies, labs & hospitals) are in the discount network.
b) Depending on discounts/benefits, they range from $6-$39 per month. I don't believe they are worth any more.
c) They don't offer reasonable coverage in case of catastrophic situations (20% discount on $400K may not do you much good).

I recommend you to contact a "licensed agent" who offers Medigap plans from different companies.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
