Missed COBRA signup after divorce

I am still on my ex husband's health insurance since we never told them we divorced- 4/2010.  I missed the COBRA sign up period and now unsure what to do .  I need to get my own plan but the new plan asks about previous/existing coverage and I am afraid of legal consequences since we never informed the employer about the divorce.  Any thoughts?  Can I get new plan, then drop old plan without the divorce being mentioned?

In CO, like most other states, insurance companies factor in your health history to determine if you qualify to get coverage with them. You can always apply for private insurance to see if you qualify and as most carriers ask about your previous coverage, they the reason why you are applying should not typically come up.

You can also contact an experienced licensed agent who can not only help you find a plan that fits your needs but also one that you are more likely to get approved by.
