One More Question & Thanks

Dear Mr. Mostafaie:

Thank you for your kind response.  If I decide to move to another state (I am originally from East Coast - and will probably move back to allow for greater career opportunities in my field) - how do the rules change for the eligibility under HIPPA?

Will I need to ensure I have moved to a new state soon enough to have established appropriate residency before my current COBRA eligibility expires?

You should also know that my BC/BS plan is through New York State (Empire) - as my former employer is based there.

I imagine you'll tell me the rules vary from state to state.  Is there somewhere I can find this information on each state?

Thank you again for your assistance.

Dear Strike3,

You are correct in that some rules vary from state to state. The good news is that the HIPAA is a Federal Law & the eligibility rules are same for most States & as long as you obtain another coverage within 62 days of your COBRA expiration, you maintain your eligibility; however the guaranteed issued plans/products available for HIPAA eligible individuals vary from state to state.
You can visit http://coverageforall.org/our_services.htm#apps for a nationwide health insurance matrix including alternative health insurance coverage, available to HIPAA eligible individuals.

Since you disclosed you may move to the east coast, I should mention that NY & NJ States are guaranteed issue to all applicants (means they will not decline or rate anyone on the basis of their health history) & if you happen to move to one of those states, simply visit www.eHealthInsurance.com for free Health Insurance quotes and/or apply for the plan of your choice.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
