Dear binkswife69,
Your case depends on the following facts;
1- Before you switched to your current coverage, did you have at least 18 months of “continuous” & “creditable” coverage without any break?
2- If yes, have you provided proof (Certificate of creditable coverage), to your current Carrier?
3- You current State of residence(look back & pre-existing waiting periods may vary in different States)
In most cases if you have had 18 months of “continuous” & “creditable” coverage, employer sponsored group plans waive pre-existing waiting periods, but you need to provide proof, by sending in the “Certificate of creditable coverage”. You need to contact your current Carrier & find out if that is why they have imposed the 280 days waiting period.
Sincerely,
Amir Mostafaie
With past insurance company for 4 years. No breaks in policy ever. Insurance was provided through medical school. It was taken out of the disbursement check once a year. That coverage ended Aug 07. New coverage began June 07. Coverage is offered through a University Hospital in Alabama. It is with a major insurance company.
I will contact my insurance company.
Thank You.
