Referals

Hello
I am 19 years old.  If I get refered from an ER doctor to see a specialist doctor, will it be covered by my insurance?

Dear sara127,

If you have an HMO, I recommend you contact your Primary Care Physician & let them know that you had to go to ER & during that visit you were advised by the ER practitioner to see a specialist and ask your PCP office for a “referral”. Your PCP office might ask you to fax them a copy of the referral slip from the ER practitioner!

This would not be an issue if you have a PPO.
