Unemployed Health Insurance Questions

Hello,

I have been unemployed for almost a year and a half.  Due to my weight not many private insurance companies will take me on at a reasonsable rate.  I lost insurance in June due to small business and there was no COBRA coverage because the company was excluded (less than 50 employees).

In Septemeber I went to the eye doctor after having a eye exam done where the optolmologist stated something was on my lens.  I spoke to an opthalmogist who informed me it was a catract (I am 26 years old) and was told that I needed catract surgery for both eyes as my other one has one slowly developing.

If I got health insurance and vision insurance would they decline my coverage if I needed the cataract surgery?  I paid for the visit out of my own pocket as I had no insurance.

Dear Mistakeguy789,

In your state you would most likely be declined if you are already diagnosed with Cataract, however, once you are declined you can apply for a "Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP)", which is ran by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and get the coverage and the treatment that you need.

You can contact PCIP at 866-717-5826 or visit them online at www.PCIP.gov.

Sincerely,
