common law wife

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama.  I want to add my commom law wife on my policy.  Can I do this at any time or do I have to wait till open enrollment?  We file taxes together and have been together approximately three years now.

Dear posey123,

It sounds like you are enrolled in an employer sponsored group plan. Some employers allow you to add your common law spouse out the open enrollment period if they can prove they just lost their existing coverage. This is so employees are able to add their family in case their coverage situation changes.

If you have employer sponsored group plan, I recommend inquiring with your Humana Resources department and they will be able to tell you the terms of their contract.
