health coverage quit job

i quit my job on FEB 2, before i quit i called the insurance company to verify when my coverage would end, they said the end of FEB. i just got a letter today stating my coverage ended JAN31? Today is FEB 15, i have not received anything about Cobra?  my check on FEB 5 had insurance premium taken out... can they/my employer backdate to the end of their premium period or should be my last day of work? for the last 2 days of my work i called in sick, i have a note from my doctors office, but the employer does not know that... in fact i have been sick for the last 2 weeks,, its beleived i had a mild case of h1n1

If they took payment then you have to be covered, that is illegal. Cobra paperwork should have been to you within a week. You have 63 days before a lapse in coverage. The new HIPPA law states that Nationwide. Call the Dept of labor and they will help you straighten this out or you can call The board of Insurance for your state, they are really helpful in helping you get it resolved.
