medicaid and getting a job w/o insurance

My daughter graduated college and was immediately dropped from our insurance and then found out she was pregnant.  She had to go on public assistance but soon got a job at  blue cross/blue shield which will provide ins. but doesnt kick in until next week.  Im sure when it does the public assistance will stop.  The dilema is her degree is in  Respiratory therapy and she has finally gotten an interview for that job this week, but it is per diem and has no benefits.   She thinks she can take this job which pays quite well 20.00  a hour and still get the public assistance for the pregnancy (she has been getting this for 3 months)  because she will have no insurance.  I am pretty sure this is not the case since she will be making a  good salary.  I think she should stay with the blue cross job so she has insurance for the birth and child (father is not in the picture)  as 7 more dollars and hour will not make the difference for not having insurance once u are dropped from public assistance  Does anyone know about his subject   Thanks

Dear shawnfox,

Eligibility for most publicly assisted programs are on case by case basis which is why most individuals have case workers who are expected to advise them through these types of situations. It is possible that a person who is pregnant & makes $20 an hour still qualifies but it all depends on where you live & what are the qualifying/disqualifying factors for each particular program. However it appears that she will be better off not switching jobs, if that will result in her losing her insurance coverage.

Sincerely,
