privacy and health insurance

Hello, I was just hired at a company that has health benefits. I have never had a job with benefits before so I am not sure how this works. When I fill out my health history on the forms, do my employers see my health history or can that stay private where only the insurance can see my health problems?

Dear bree777,

Depending on the size of your company, you may have an HR department or in case of a small company, you may have the owner or even your owner’s assistant take your application. Either way the person who is designated to take your application is likely to see the information on your application & that is not against the law. However it is against the law if that person shares that information with anyone other than the insurer and or hold that information against you; in other words make any decisions about you or your position based on that information.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
