11th Hour: Vegetarian Gravy Options?

11th Hour: Vegetarian Gravy Options?

This is to be my 1st meatless Thanksgiving.  My partner and I spend this holiday together, and I usually make turkey and all the trimmings.  Luckliy, we both love the traditional sides and lots of those can be made without meat with little adaptation.  (Plus there are some good looking holiday recipes here!)

But what about gravy?

I know it is last minute, but any good meatless gravy ideas are most welcome!  To make matters worse, my stomach doesn't get along with mushrooms, so it's also best for me to avoid those.  I'm not vegan, and am ok with small amounts of dairy.

Thanks, and even if mine is sans gravy, I'm sure I'll have a great Thanksgiving and hope everyone else does, too!

You can make it with vegetable broth, just the way you would with beef  or chicken broth.

Off hand I'd say (recollecting back to my vegetarian days, these days I'm semi veggie) just make a roux with butter and flour, and add some (a cup or so) of  vegetable broth or stock.  Stir until thickened.  Then whisk in a can of cream of mushroom soup, or cr. of celery soup, or cream of anything else vegetarian that floats your boat.

Gravy.  Might not be featured on the Food Network type of gravy, but gravy.  And its quick.

There are also packets of vegetarian gravy mix where the other vegetarian foods are stored.

Or you can google.  I have to believe there are lots of recipes out there.

Thanks!

Yes, a google turns up results, but I thought I'd see what options were tried and tested by members here.

I usually avoid "places where vegetarian foods are sold" because I'm still very fat and I think I make the snoodier vegetarians nervous!  I used to buy my gravy, but now that ya mention it, starting with a roux makes sense.

My household thanks you, and I'll sleep better not worrying about dry stuffing.

You can also heat your broth and thicken with corn starch.
