First and foremost, you need to restrict your salt/sodium intake, and increase your potassium intake.

The majority of canned foods are very high in sodium, as are, cheeses, pickles, and butter. A low fat diet is also beneficial.

Excessive amounts of alcohol and caffeine should be eliminated and definitely no smoking.

It all comes down to a well balanced diet along with exercise and being faithful about taking your precribed medication, if need be.

A complete blood work up should be done before increasing your potassium.

absolutley salt, its the worst for high bloood pressure , youll need to become a label reader cause salts in a lot of things you wouldnt think of, this include derivitives of salt (  garlic salt, onion sa;t, celery salt, etc.

so its like wat do i do just deprived myself of the foods i like....im very depressed about this...i mean to diet all ive been eating was sandwiches wit tomatoes an lettuce an turkey lite mayo...an cheese....but now that u told me about the cheese i wont put that in my sandwich....if i just ate sandwiches for like a month without cheese would be alrite....

Sweet potatoes are very healthy as is chicken, but you have to be careful what you put on them. Chicken skin is a no-no, especially if you're watching your cholesterol.

As far as the fruit juices go, as long as the sodium and sugars are low, you should be okay.

You really have to become an expert on label reading,  (I know it's a pain in the a$$) but eventually you will learn what you can and can't have.
