This is from another lady doing the program

Phase 1 is the muscle building phase. Carbs help 'transport the nutrients from protein to the muscle cells which aids in muscle growth'.

Carbs can be used to our advantage to build more muscle faster. In Phase 1, you cut out carbs at 7pm because your body simply does not need the energy while you’re sleeping and the carbs may actually get stored as fat. The evening meal (final meal right before bedtime) includes a slow digesting protein - like the egg whites - to delay catabolism (muscle breakdown).

I agree with margypops in part... portion control is important.

Rice is a carb/starch which is recommended to have in your diet.. some 3 servings a day, however, not after 7pm (some say 2pm).

A better choice of starch/carb would be cream of wheat/rice/rye, brown rice, sweet potato, a bean (pinto, kidney, mung, etc), or quinoa.

LaDonnaf, I need you to revamp my diet.  Why no starch after 7 (or even 2 pm, yikes!)?  does it sit there and turn into fat?  (this would explain a lot)

You cook it like rice, yes... it is said to be done when the kernels turn transparent... they start off a greenish/brown color and then are like see through.

I haven't mastered it yet :-)

specialmom: good question. I will research why this is. A friend of mine training to be a personal trainer said not after 2pm for carbs... the site I just joined and the program I'm following (Jamie Eason's LiveFit) says no carbs after 7pm. I will get back to you when I found out the 'why'

It's interesting.  I was trying to think if I eat carbs after 7 on a regular basis and I eat dinner a little earlier but not always.  I'll have to rethink  this!  You are a 'wealth' of knowledge dear!!
