hemoglobin anemia

Doctor says my hemoglobin is near the anemic stage.
Are there any foods or otc supplements that will improve my condition?

You should be taking an otc iron supplement as well as a multivitamin. Ask your doctor how often they want you taking the iron supplement.  Also be sure to get enough vitamin C too - take the iron with a glass of oj so it's better absorbed.

Many foods that are high in iron - you can google foods high in iron for many websites that have lists of foods with their iron content to see what you can work into your diet for more iron.

I agree with the above post about the iron...but also be careful  too much iron can cause problems.....aks your doctor how much you should be getting...then get another blood check in a month...there are other diagnoses for low hemoglobin...if it doesn't improve with the iron, stop it immediately and ask your doctor about other chronic anemia problems...best to be safe!

I have iron deficiency anemia.  I am prescribed iron supplements 3 times a day.  You didn't say the cause of your anemia or if they have found the cause. They're are many things that contribute to or cause anemia.  Aside from the iron supplements I added a fortified cereal and 100% juice.   I also did some research on the net to assist me with healthy eating and to determine where my diet was lacking.  Sadly at this time I don't have a reason for my anemia.  It takes a lot of time and testing to there.  Have patience, make sure you understand what type of anemia your have, consider your diet and research, research, research.  The research will help you to know what questions to ask your dr.  I always get copies of my tests and lab work.  With that in hand you can learn to understand what the numbers mean.  There are websites that have good explanations.  Hope this helps.
